The 123/MERCEDES-4-R is designed for the W110, W115 and W123 engines WITHOUT vacuum advance and is therefor the 123ignition to use in the Mercedes 190 SL and the Mercedes Ponton. This 123ignition can also be used in the Mercedes 190C, 200, 220, 220US and 230 (all without vacuum advance). Next to the standard-curves, it offers optimized advance-curves for driving on LPG or E85, the new Bio-Ethanol-fuel of the future.

Features of the 123/Mercedes-4-R electronic ignition

Next to the standard-curves, the unit offers optimized advance-curves for driving on LPG or E85, the new Bio-Ethanol-fuel of the future. The unit has a built-in LED for easy static timing and several different advance-curves.

It also offers:
- Automatic dwell
- Automatic power-cut after 1 second

Please note the following about the 123/Mercedes-4-R

For engines WITH vacuum advance, please order a 123/MERCEDES-4-R-V.
For cars with fuel injection-systems, a 123/MERCEDES-4-R-V-IE is available.

Please read the installation manual carefully. It contains more information about motor- and distributor numbers, static timing and the advance-curves, the specifications of the 123ignition and a step-by-step description of the installation procedure.

In addition to the information in the installation manual the following curves are available:
Curve B - distributor no. VJU4BR14/22/27/29 - Type 180a, 190 - compr. 1:6,8
Curve C - distributor no. VJURBR28 - Type 180b - compr. 1:7,0
Curve D - distributor no. VJ4BR11, VJR4BR24 - Type 190SL - compr. 1:8,5/8,8
Curve F - distributor no. VR4BR15 - Borgward Isabella 1,493 lts. 4 Cyl. without vacuum

! With the Borgward Isabella it is UTMOST important to static time the ignition at TDC. In case of fine adjusting with the stroboscope this must be done above 3200 rpm at 34 degrees.

Coils and spark plugs

Although used coils all look alike, they should be viewed with suspicion since one cannot tell from the outside whether, and how often they were exposed to overheating in the past. Installing the 123ignition system will ensure that the coil will never be overheated again in future. We recommend the 123 Blue Coil.

123ignition in mercedes sl

Het monteren was makkelijk, tevoren in D stand gezet, starten was geen probleem. Afstellen met stroboscoop. Loopt veel regelmatiger, prima!

Inbouw 123 ignition in 190 SL

Ik heb onlangs een 123 onsteking in mijn 190 SL ingebouwd. Dankzij de duidelijke beschrijving is dit eenvoudig te doen. Na de inbouw de afstelling gecontroleerd met de stroboscoop. De basis afstelling was dusdanig goed dat er geen correctie nodig was. Electronische vervroeging werkt goed en komt overeen met de fabrieks afstel gegevens. Resultaat van de inbouw is echt merkbaar. Vooral stationair loop is sterk verbeterd. Motor loopt mooi rond bij 700 toeren.
Het is ook niet echt opvallend dat verdeler niet origineel is. Omdat er verder niet iets structureel gewijzigd is kan altijd de oude verdeler met de contact puntjes weer terug gezet worden.

Kraftstoffverbrauch

Wie versprochen melde ich mich mit meinen Erfahrungen mit einer 1-2-3 ignition Zündanlage. Mein Oldie, MB 180 B, Bj 1060, ist in der Saison 2009 ( 2800 Km ) mit einer solchen Anlage gefahren. Am Verbrauchsverhalten hat sich nichts geändert, 10,5 l/100 Km. Trotzdem möchte ich die Zündanlage nicht missen, der Motor läuft einfach besser und man kann bedenkenlos auch mal eine längere Strecke mit einer Geschwindigkeit von ca 120 Km/h fahren.

Einfach Klasse !

Seit rund 300 Km fährt mein Oldie ( MB 180 B; Bj 1960 ) mit einer 123ignition Zündanlage. Der Einbau war sehr einfach, 1 1/2 Stunden für geübte Schrauber einschl. Einstellung der Zündung und Kerzenwechsel.
Ergebnis :
Besseres Kaltstartverhalten, ruhigerer Lauf, der Motor hängt sauber am Gas; und als Nebeneffekt, ich kann ohne Störgeräusche mit dem zeitgenössischen Radio Musik hören.
Hinsichtlich des Verbrauchsverhaltens melde ich mich im Oktober zum Ende der Oldtimersaison. Bis dahin werde ich voraussichtlich ca. 2500 Km mit dem Oldie fahren.
